On June 12, teenagers Gil-Ad Shaer, Naftali Frankel,
and Eyal Yifrach were abducted by a Hamas squad from
Hebron. Following the funerals of the three teenagers, Jewish citizens murdered teenager Muhammad Abu Khdeir from Shua’aft.
The Hamas Movement in Gaza launched a missile and
rocket attack on Israel. In response, Israel launched Operation Protective Edge.
During Operation Protective Edge, 67 soldiers and 5
civilians lost their lives. 1,620 soldiers and 837 civilians were injured; 2,203 Palestinians lost their lives in the fighting. According to the IDF, 1,408 of them were members of the Hamas and other organizations.
10,298 Palestinians were injured. According to the
UNRWA data, 10,690 houses were demolished, and
485,000 Palestinians lost their homes.
